Bronislaus Frank Lake was born August 14, 1893 in Buffalo, NY to Albert and Mary Megowski Lake, natives of Danzig (now, Gdańsk) Poland.
His parents arrived to the United States, March 18th 1887 at the Port of New York. Father Albert worked for the railroad to support the twelve or more children. The family lived in Buffalo, NY until 1906, when they moved to Toledo, OH. Mr. Lake married Anna Irene Ziegler.
While living in Toledo, OH, Mr. Lake worked for Champion Spark Plug and later for the NY Central Railroad (just like his father) where everyone knew him as Brown Lake, and later just Barney.
